Timing Marriage — A Complete Worked Example

Follow a complete KP marriage timing analysis from start to finish: 7th CSL check, significator tables for houses 2, 7, 11, Dasha-RP-transit correlation, and...

Introduction

The previous chapter gave you the 7-step workflow. Now let's see it in action — every step, every reasoning chain, every judgment call — for the most commonly asked question in astrology: "When will I get married?"

🔑 Key Concept
Marriage in KP is analyzed through the 7th cusp as the primary house. The supportive houses are 2 (family expansion), 7 (marriage/partnership), and 11 (fulfillment of desire). The obstructive houses are 1 (self/independence), 6 (disputes/opposition to 7th), and 10 (career focus/opposition to family expansion). If the 7th CSL signifies the supportive group, marriage is promised. If it signifies the obstructive group, marriage is denied or significantly delayed.

We'll walk through a complete analysis using a sample chart with specific planet positions. Follow along step by step — and resist the temptation to jump ahead to the answer. The discipline of the workflow is the point.

Query moment: Client asks on a Friday (Venus day) at 3:15 PM. (Ruling Planets are recomputed from this moment in Step 5.)

Step 1: Determine the Question

The client's question: "When will I get married?"

KP framing:

  • Question type: Marriage timing
  • Primary cusp: 7th house
  • Supportive houses: 2, 7, 11
  • Obstructive houses: 1, 6, 10

This is straightforward — no ambiguity in the question. Proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Check the 7th CSL — Is Marriage Promised?

The 7th cusp falls at 13°27' Sagittarius.

7th CSL: Venus (sub-lord of the 7th cusp)

Venus is a real planet with its own rulership, so no representative chain is needed — we read its signification directly.

Venus's position: 24°38' Aries, in the 11th house.

Venus's signification chain:

  • Venus occupies house 11 (with Mercury)
  • Venus's star lord is its own — Venus tenants Bharani, ruled by Venus
  • Through its placement and star, Venus channels the 11th house (fulfillment of desire) — directly supportive for marriage

Houses signified by the 7th CSL (Venus): 5, 9, 11, 12.

  • House 11supportive for marriage ✓
  • Houses 5, 9, 12 — neutral for marriage (none of them belongs to the obstructive set 1, 6, 10)
📌 KP-PRINCIPLE
The 7th CSL is the gatekeeper of the marriage promise. You do NOT need the occupant of the 7th, the karaka, or the sign lord to make this call — only the cuspal sub-lord and the houses it signifies. If the 7th CSL touches the supportive group (2, 7, 11) and avoids the obstructive group (1, 6, 10), the chart promises marriage.

Verdict: The 7th CSL Venus signifies a supportive house (11) and carries no obstructive connection (1, 6, 10). The promise is clean.

Conclusion: Marriage IS promised. There is no obstruction in the CSL itself, so we proceed straight to building significators and finding the timing window. (The neutral houses 5, 9, 12 simply color the marriage with family/fortune themes; they neither block it nor delay it.)

💡 Did You Know?
Prof. Krishnamurti noted that when a node occupies the 7th house — here Saturn (retrograde) sits on the 7th cusp and Ketu falls in the 2nd — it does not automatically settle the question. What matters is the 7th cuspal sub-lord, not the occupant. Saturn's presence in the 7th merely adds it to the significator table at Level 2 (occupant). The CSL Venus is what delivers the verdict. This is a key distinction between KP and classical Vedic interpretation, where a heavy Saturn on the 7th is often read with concern regardless of the sub-lord.

Step 3: Build Significator Tables

We need significator tables for houses 2, 7, and 11.

House 2 — Family Expansion, Wealth

Occupant of House 2: Ketu (at 14°29' Cancer) Lord of House 2: Moon (Cancer on the cusp)

Significator Table — House 2:

Level Type Planet Reasoning
1 Star of occupant The occupant is Ketu; no planet in this chart sits in a star ruled by Ketu (Ashwini, Magha, Mula). Level 1 is empty here.
2 Occupant Ketu Ketu directly occupies house 2
3 Star of lord Mercury, Rahu The 2nd lord is Moon. Planets in Moon's stars (Rohini, Hasta, Shravana): Mercury at 11°19' Taurus is in Rohini; Rahu at 14°29' Capricorn is in Shravana. Both are Level 3
4 Lord Moon Moon rules Cancer on the 2nd cusp

House 7 — Marriage/Partnership

Occupant of House 7: Saturn (retrograde, at 0°26' Capricorn) Lord of House 7: Jupiter (Sagittarius on the cusp)

Significator Table — House 7:

Level Type Planet Reasoning
1 Star of occupant Ketu The occupant is Saturn. Planets in Saturn's stars (Pushya, Anuradha, U.Bhadrapada): Ketu at 14°29' Cancer is in Pushya. So Ketu is the Level 1 significator of the 7th
2 Occupant Saturn Saturn directly occupies house 7
3 Star of lord Jupiter The 7th lord is Jupiter. Planets in Jupiter's stars (Punarvasu, Vishakha, P.Bhadrapada): Jupiter at 22°10' Gemini is in Punarvasu — Jupiter is in its own star, so it self-signifies at Level 3
4 Lord Jupiter Jupiter rules Sagittarius on the 7th cusp

House 11 — Fulfillment of Desires

Occupants of House 11: Mercury (11°19' Taurus) and Venus (24°38' Aries) Lord of House 11: Mars (Aries on the cusp)

Significator Table — House 11:

Level Type Planet Reasoning
1 Star of occupant Mars, Venus Occupants are Mercury and Venus. Planets in Mercury's stars (Ashlesha, Jyeshtha, Revati): Mars at 17°06' Pisces is in Revati → Mars is Level 1. Planets in Venus's stars (Bharani, P.Phalguni, P.Ashadha): Venus at 24°38' Aries is in Bharani — Venus in its own star → Venus is Level 1
2 Occupant Mercury (and Venus, already raised to Level 1 by self-signification) — both tenant the 11th
3 Star of lord Sun The 11th lord is Mars. Planets in Mars's stars (Mrigashira, Chitra, Dhanishtha): Sun at 0°05' Gemini is in Mrigashira → Sun is Level 3
4 Lord Mars Mars rules Aries on the 11th cusp

Combined Significator List for Marriage (Houses 2, 7, 11)

Planet Signifies Houses Level(s) Strength
Ketu 7, 2 Level 1 (H7), Level 2 (H2) Strong (star of 7th occupant + occupies 2)
Venus 11 Level 1 Strong (star of 11th occupant; also the 7th CSL)
Mercury 11, 2 Level 2 (H11), Level 3 (H2) Strong (multiple marriage-house links)
Saturn 7 Level 2 Moderate (occupies the 7th)
Jupiter 7 Level 3+4 Moderate (star of lord + lord of 7th)
Mars 11 Level 1 Strong (star of 11th occupant)
Rahu 2 Level 3 Moderate (star of 2nd lord)
Sun 11 Level 3 Moderate (star of 11th lord)
Moon 2 Level 4 Weak (lord of 2nd)

Key significators for marriage timing: Ketu (the only planet linking both the 7th and the 2nd, and the strongest 7th significator), Venus (the 7th CSL and Level-1 of the 11th), Mercury (11th and 2nd), and Saturn/Jupiter for the 7th itself.

⚠️ Common Mistake
Forgetting to resolve Rahu/Ketu when they appear as significators. Ketu is the strongest 7th-house significator here, and Rahu signifies the 2nd. For timing purposes a node acts through its representatives — Ketu sits in Cancer (sign lord Moon) in Pushya (star lord Saturn), so it carries Moon and Saturn's flavor; Rahu sits in Capricorn (sign lord Saturn) in Shravana (star lord Moon), carrying Saturn and Moon. When scanning Dasha periods that involve a node, check whether its sign- and star-lords also touch the marriage houses.

Step 4: Identify the Favorable Dated Dasha-Bhukti-Antara

📌 IMPORTANT
KP timing is delivered as a lord-named window, and once we run a dated Vimshottari calculation for the native's birth, that window carries real calendar dates. The Mahadasha sequence is fixed by the Moon's star lord and the native's balance of Dasha at birth; from there every Bhukti and Antara has an exact start and end. The dates below come from a Vimshottari calculation for the stated birth (15 June 1990, 07:00, Pune) and assume that birth data is accurate.

The dated Mahadasha sequence for this native:

The Moon sits at 15°55' Aquarius in Shatabhisha, whose star lord is Rahu, so the native is born partway through the Rahu Mahadasha (the balance of Rahu's 18 years runs from birth). Computing the full Vimshottari arc for this birth gives:

Mahadasha Lord Years (KP) Life Stage
Rahu Rahu 1990 → 1995 (birth balance) Infancy
Jupiter Jupiter 1995 → 2011 Childhood / youth
Saturn Saturn 2011 → 2030 The adult decade — marriage window
Mercury Mercury 2030 → 2047 Mid-life

The native is born in the Rahu balance period and runs the long Jupiter Mahadasha all through childhood and adolescence — too young to marry. The realistic adult window is the Saturn Mahadasha (2011 → 2030). So we re-anchor the search to the Saturn MD, not the birth-balance Rahu MD, and ask: within the Saturn period, which Bhukti brings the marriage houses live?

Saturn signifies house 7 (it is the occupant of the 7th, Level 2) — so the entire Saturn Mahadasha keeps the marriage house in the background. The Bhukti and Antara then decide which sub-window inside it actually fires.

🔑 Key Concept
Why the Saturn Mahadasha, not Rahu. The Mahadasha running at birth (Rahu, here just a balance period of infancy) is rarely the marriage period — the native is a small child. The honest worked example anchors to the Mahadasha that covers adult life. Here that is Saturn (2011 → 2030), and Saturn is also the 7th-house occupant, so the broad backdrop already touches marriage. The Vimshottari order within it is Ke 7, Ve 20, Su 6, Mo 10, Ma 7, Ra 18, Ju 16, Sa 19, Me 17, and every Bhukti sequence starts with its own lord (so Saturn's first Bhukti is Saturn-Saturn).

Scanning the dated Bhukti periods within the Saturn Mahadasha (Saturn-Saturn runs first from 2011; the marriage-relevant ones):

Bhukti Dated Window Signifies (marriage houses) Marriage Window?
Saturn-Saturn 2011 → 2014 Saturn: H7 (occupant, L2) ✓ Touches the 7th
Saturn-Mercury 2014 → 2017 Mercury: H11 (L2), H2 (L3) ✓ Supportive
Saturn-Ketu 2017 → 2018 Ketu: H7 (L1), H2 (L2) ✓✓ Strong (but short)
Saturn-Venus 11 Oct 2018 → 10 Dec 2021 Venus: H11 (L1); also the 7th CSL ✓✓✓ The marriage Bhukti
Saturn-Sun 2021 → 2023 Sun: H11 (L3) only ~ Weak
Saturn-Moon 2023 → 2024 Moon: H2 (L4) only ~ Weak
Saturn-Mars 2024 → 2026 Mars: H11 (L1) ✓ Supportive

The Saturn-Venus Bhukti — 11 Oct 2018 → 10 Dec 2021 — is the standout. Venus is the 7th cuspal sub-lord itself and a Level-1 significator of the 11th, so the Bhukti lord re-states the very promise we confirmed in Step 2; and it sits inside the Saturn Mahadasha (7th occupant). Mahadasha and Bhukti together put the 7th and the 11th on the table across a real three-year window. This is our primary marriage window.

Scanning the dated Antara periods within the Saturn-Venus Bhukti (the Antara opens with the Bhukti lord, Venus, then runs in Vimshottari order):

Antara Approx. Dated Window Signifies (marriage houses) Marriage Match?
Sa-Ve-Venus Oct 2018 → Apr 2019 Venus: H11 (L1), 7th CSL ✓✓✓ Venus at Bhukti and Antara
Sa-Ve-Sun Apr 2019 → Jun 2019 Sun: H11 (L3) ~ Mild
Sa-Ve-Moon Jun 2019 → Aug 2019 Moon: H2 (L4) ~ Mild
Sa-Ve-Mars Aug 2019 → Nov 2019 Mars: H11 (L1) ✓ Supportive
Sa-Ve-Rahu Nov 2019 → Apr 2020 Rahu: H2 (L3) ✓ Supportive (2nd)
Sa-Ve-Jupiter Apr 2020 → Sep 2020 Jupiter: H7 (L3+L4) ✓✓ Brings the 7th
Sa-Ve-Saturn Sep 2020 → Mar 2021 Saturn: H7 (L2 occupant); MD lord ✓✓ Brings the 7th
Sa-Ve-Mercury Mar 2021 → Aug 2021 Mercury: H11 (L2), H2 (L3) ✓ Supportive
Sa-Ve-Ketu Aug 2021 → Dec 2021 Ketu: H7 (L1), H2 (L2) ✓✓✓ Strongest 7th link

The sharpest sub-window opens first: Saturn-Venus-Venus — roughly Oct 2018 → Apr 2019. Venus is the 7th CSL repeating at both the Bhukti and the Antara level, inside the Saturn (7th occupant) Mahadasha — every one of the three lords connects to the marriage group, and the decisive 7th CSL is named twice. That is the most likely opening of the marriage window. Two later Antaras inside the same Bhukti also bring the 7th directly and act as strong follow-on triggers:

  1. Saturn-Venus-Saturn (≈Sep 2020 → Mar 2021): Saturn occupies the 7th (Level 2) and is the Mahadasha lord — a strong 7th-house re-statement.
  2. Saturn-Venus-Ketu (≈Aug 2021 → Dec 2021): Ketu is the Level-1 significator of the 7th and the occupant of the 2nd — the tightest single 7th link, closing the Bhukti.

We carry Saturn-Venus-Venus forward as the primary trigger, with the Saturn and Ketu Antaras as the follow-ons, to the RP filter.

Step 5: Apply the Ruling Planet Filter

The Ruling Planets are computed for the moment of judgment. For this worked example we take the chart moment as the moment of judgment (a Friday, Venus's day), so the RPs are read straight from the engine's ruling-planet block.

Ruling Planets at the moment of judgment:

# RP Type Source RP Planet
1 Day Lord Friday Venus
2 Ascendant Sign Lord Lagna in Gemini Mercury
3 Ascendant Star Lord Lagna in Ardra Rahu
4 Ascendant Sub-Lord Lagna sub Mercury
5 Moon Sign Lord Moon in Aquarius Saturn
6 Moon Star Lord Moon in Shatabhisha Rahu
7 Moon Sub-Lord Moon sub Venus

Ruling Planets (with repeats): Venus, Mercury, Rahu, Mercury, Saturn, Rahu, Venus

Consolidated unique RP list: Venus, Rahu, Mercury, Saturn (Venus and Rahu and Mercury each appear twice — that repetition strengthens their weight).

Cross-checking with the marriage significators:

RP In Significator List? Match?
Venus Yes — Level 1 of H11 AND the 7th CSL ✓✓ Strong match
Rahu Yes — Level 3 of H2; the Mahadasha lord ✓ Match
Mercury Yes — Level 2 of H11, Level 3 of H2 ✓ Match
Saturn Yes — Level 2 (occupant) of H7 ✓ Match

Result: All 4 unique RPs are also marriage significators — an unusually clean confirmation. Crucially, Saturn and Venus (both Ruling Planets) are precisely the Mahadasha and Bhukti lords of our dated primary window, and Venus is doubled.

Timing refinement from RPs: Saturn (an RP) is both the Mahadasha lord and the 7th-house occupant, and Venus (a doubled RP) is the Bhukti lord and the 7th CSL — so the RP filter points straight at the Saturn-Venus Bhukti (11 Oct 2018 → 10 Dec 2021). Within it, Venus repeating endorses the Saturn-Venus-Venus Antara (≈Oct 2018 → Apr 2019) as the sharpest opening; Saturn (an RP) backs the Saturn-Venus-Saturn Antara, and Ketu (not an RP itself but ruled by Saturn, which IS an RP) anchors the closing Saturn-Venus-Ketu Antara. The RP filter therefore strongly endorses the Saturn-Venus Bhukti, and within it the Venus, Saturn, and Ketu Antaras as the marriage sub-periods — with the Venus Antara opening the window.

Step 6: Check Transits

We're now inside the dated Saturn-Venus Bhukti (11 Oct 2018 → 10 Dec 2021), targeting the Saturn-Venus-Venus Antara (≈Oct 2018 → Apr 2019) and the later Saturn-Venus-Saturn / Saturn-Venus-Ketu Antaras. Transits do not create the event — they fine-tune which week inside the dated window the event triggers. We look for the slow movers (Jupiter, Saturn) to be transiting marriage-supportive sub-lords, and use the Sun and Moon as the fast daily/weekly timers.

📌 IMPORTANT
KP transit timing is read by the transiting planet's sub-lord, not by sign or house alone. A trigger is when a significator-and-RP planet transits a zodiac degree whose sub-lord signifies the marriage houses (2, 7, 11). The Dasha gives the dated band; the transit picks the week inside it.

Key transits to watch (the significators that are also Ruling Planets):

Jupiter (7th lord, slow mover): A trigger condition is Jupiter transiting a degree whose sub-lord is Venus, Ketu, Saturn, or Mercury (all marriage significators here). Jupiter transiting its own star Punarvasu, or any point sub-ruled by Venus (the 7th CSL), reinforces the 7th-house promise.

Saturn (7th occupant, RP, slow mover): Because Saturn occupies the 7th and is a Ruling Planet, Saturn transiting a Venus or Ketu sub gives a strong, slow confirmation across the Antara.

Sun (Level-3 of 11th; daily timer): The Sun moves ≈1°/day. The trigger day is when the Sun transits a degree whose sub-lord is Venus, Ketu, or Saturn — for example, when the Sun transits Pushya (Ketu's Nakshatra, the very star that makes Ketu the Level-1 7th significator) at a Venus or Ketu sub-division.

Moon (weekly/daily timer): The Moon completes the zodiac in ≈27 days. Practitioners confirm the wedding day by the Moon transiting a sub-lord that signifies 2, 7, or 11 — most decisively a Venus or Ketu sub — within the chosen Antara.

Transit convergence (conceptual): The strongest trigger is when the Sun (daily) and Moon (within the day) both transit Venus/Ketu/Saturn sub-divisions while the Saturn-Venus-Venus Antara is running (≈Oct 2018 → Apr 2019) — or one of its later Saturn-Venus-Saturn / Saturn-Venus-Ketu follow-ons — and Jupiter/Saturn are themselves transiting marriage sub-lords. The Dasha names the dated band; that transit convergence picks the precise wedding week inside it.

Step 7: Deliver the Prediction

Bringing all 7 steps together:

Verdict: Marriage is indicated in this chart.

The 7th CSL is Venus, signifying houses 5, 9, 11, 12. House 11 (fulfillment of desire) is supportive and there is no obstructive connection (1, 6, 10). The promise is clean — marriage is positively indicated, with a family-and-fortune flavor (5, 9) and no built-in delay from the CSL itself.

The timing window: The native is born in the Rahu balance period and runs the Jupiter Mahadasha through youth, so the realistic adult marriage window is the Saturn Mahadasha (2011 → 2030). The strongest alignment inside it falls in the Saturn-Venus Bhukti — 11 Oct 2018 → 10 Dec 2021 — Venus being both the 7th CSL and a Level-1 significator of the 11th, inside the Saturn (7th occupant) Mahadasha. The sharpest sub-window opens first: the Saturn-Venus-Venus Antara, roughly Oct 2018 → Apr 2019, where the 7th CSL Venus is named at both the Bhukti and the Antara — the most likely opening of the marriage window. The Saturn-Venus-Saturn (≈Sep 2020 → Mar 2021, Saturn occupying the 7th) and Saturn-Venus-Ketu (≈Aug 2021 → Dec 2021, Ketu the Level-1 7th significator) Antaras are strong follow-on triggers later in the same Bhukti. The transit step then pins the trigger to the week when the Sun and Moon cross Venus/Ketu/Saturn sub-divisions during the running Antara.

Confidence level: High. The CSL promise is clean (supportive, no obstruction), the Dasha alignment is strong (the Mahadasha lord occupies the 7th and the Bhukti lord is the 7th CSL repeating at the Antara), and all four unique Ruling Planets — Venus, Rahu, Mercury, Saturn — are marriage significators, with Saturn and Venus being the very Mahadasha and Bhukti lords of the dated window.

Communication to client: "Your chart positively indicates marriage. The strongest window opens in your Saturn major period, in the Venus sub-period that runs from October 2018 to December 2021 — Venus is both the decider for your 7th house and a strong significator of your house of fulfilment. The window opens sharpest at the very start, around October 2018 to April 2019, when Venus is reinforced again at the sub-sub-period level, with two further strong openings in late 2020 and the second half of 2021 when your 7th house is directly activated. I'd recommend being open to introductions and connections from late 2018 onward. The exact wedding week is fixed nearer the time by checking transits, but the favourable period is clear. (These dates assume your stated birth details and are drawn from a Vimshottari Dasha calculation.)"

Caveat noted: "This analysis assumes your birth time of 07:00 AM is accurate to within 2-3 minutes. KP is birth-time sensitive — a few minutes can shift a cuspal sub-lord — so if there's any uncertainty in the recorded time, I'd recommend a horary verification using a KP number for additional confirmation."

The Role of Houses 2, 7, and 11 — Why These Three?

Now that you've seen the complete analysis, let's deepen your understanding of why these specific houses govern marriage:

House 2 — Family expansion: Marriage transforms a single person into a family unit. The 2nd house represents family, accumulated wealth, and domestic establishment. When 2nd house significators activate, the family structure changes.

House 7 — The partnership itself: This is the primary marriage house — the house of the spouse, the contract, the commitment. The 7th CSL is the gatekeeper for this reason.

House 11 — Fulfillment of desire: The 11th house represents gains, the realization of hopes, and social networks. Marriage is, among other things, the fulfillment of one of the most fundamental human desires.

The Obstructive Houses: 1, 6, 10

House 1 — Self: The 1st house opposes the 7th. Strong 1st house activation during a supposed marriage window suggests the native's focus is on personal independence, self-development, or solo ventures — energy flowing away from partnership.

House 6 — Conflict: The 6th house is the 12th from the 7th — the "loss" of partnership. When 6th house significators dominate, disputes, separations, or obstacles to union arise.

House 10 — Career: The 10th house is the 12th from the 11th — the "loss" of desire fulfillment. Strong 10th house activation may indicate that career demands override the marriage timeline.

⚠️ Common Mistake
Treating the obstructive houses as absolute blockers. A significator that signifies house 7 AND house 6 doesn't automatically cancel out. It may indicate marriage with complications, or a marriage that follows a period of conflict. KP works in gradients — the balance between supportive and obstructive significations matters more than the mere presence of an obstructive connection.

Beyond the Prediction: What If Marriage Is Denied?

Not every chart promises marriage. When the 7th CSL predominantly signifies houses 1, 6, 10, the honest analysis is: "The chart does not indicate marriage in its current configuration."

But this verdict comes with professional responsibilities:

  1. Never deliver a blunt "no" without context. Explain what IS indicated — perhaps strong career growth, personal independence, or other life themes the chart supports.

  2. Acknowledge the chart's limitations. "The chart shows current indications, not permanent cosmic decrees. Life circumstances, personal choices, and transit shifts can create new openings."

  3. Offer a constructive path. "A horary chart can provide a focused, time-specific answer when you have a particular relationship prospect in mind."

  4. Never frame denial as destiny. KP shows strong tendencies, not unbreakable fate. The chart is a map of probabilities, not a script.

Common Misconceptions

"A Venus period automatically means marriage." Venus is the natural karaka for marriage, but in KP, natural karakatwa is secondary to house signification. A Venus period activates whatever houses Venus signifies in the specific chart. Here we are fortunate — Venus happens to be both the 7th CSL and a Level-1 significator of the 11th, so the Venus Bhukti genuinely is a marriage window. But in a chart where Venus signified, say, houses 6, 8, 12, a Venus period would NOT promise marriage no matter how "naturally" Venus relates to love. Always check the signification, not the karaka label.

"Saturn in the 7th house means no marriage or late marriage." This is a classical Vedic concern, not a KP rule. In KP, Saturn occupying the 7th (as in this chart) simply makes Saturn a Level-2 significator of house 7. Whether it helps or hinders depends on the 7th cuspal sub-lord (Venus here — supportive) and on what Saturn's own star lord and sub-lord signify. A 7th-house Saturn can even time the marriage when its sub-period runs, rather than denying it.

"If Jupiter is strong, marriage is guaranteed." Jupiter's strength (dignity, aspects, etc.) is a Vedic consideration. In KP, what matters is Jupiter's signification chain — which houses does Jupiter connect to through the 4-level hierarchy? A "strong" Jupiter signifying houses 5, 8, 12 does nothing for marriage. A "weak" Jupiter signifying houses 2, 7, 11 is a powerful marriage significator.

"The transit of Jupiter through the 7th house triggers marriage." This is Vedic transit reading. In KP, Jupiter transiting the 7th house only triggers marriage if the sub-lord of the exact degree Jupiter occupies signifies marriage-supportive houses. Jupiter at 5° Cancer (Pushya, Saturn sub) has a completely different effect than Jupiter at 10° Cancer (Pushya, Venus sub) — same Nakshatra, but a Venus sub speaks to marriage here while a Saturn sub does not.

Practical Application

Exercise 1: Replicate the Analysis

Using the chart data provided in this chapter, independently work through all 7 steps. Don't look at the analysis above — use only the planet positions and house cusps. Compare your results with the chapter's analysis. Where did you arrive at the same conclusions? Where did you differ, and why?

Exercise 2: Change the Question

Using the same chart, analyze: "Will this native start their own business?" The primary cusp is the 7th (business partnerships) and supportive houses are 2, 7, 10, 11. How do the significator tables change? Does the timing window shift?

Exercise 3: The Denied Marriage

Imagine a different native whose 7th CSL signifies houses 1, 6, and 10 (the obstructive set) and touches none of 2, 7, 11. Write a professional communication to the client explaining that the chart does not currently indicate marriage, following the ethical guidelines from the chapter. (This is a hypothetical contrast to our worked chart, whose 7th CSL Venus is supportive — do not derive degrees; reason only from the stated significations.)

The Worked Example at a Glance

Step Finding Verdict
1 — Frame Marriage timing; houses 2, 7, 11 supportive / 1, 6, 10 obstructive Question set
2 — CSL 7th CSL = Venus → signifies 5, 9, 11, 12 (11 supportive, no obstruction) PROMISED (clean)
3 — Significators Venus (L1 H11; it is also the decider for the 7th); Ketu (L1 H7 + L2 H2); Mercury (L2 H11, L3 H2); Saturn (L2 H7) Key planets identified
4 — DBA Saturn MD (2011–2030, adult window) → Saturn-Venus Bhukti 11 Oct 2018 → 10 Dec 2021 → Saturn-Venus-Venus Antara (≈Oct 2018 → Apr 2019) Window: Saturn-Venus, opening Oct 2018 (Saturn/Ketu Antaras as follow-ons)
5 — RP filter All 4 unique RPs (Venus, Rahu, Mercury, Saturn) are marriage significators; Saturn & Venus are the MD & Bhukti lords Strong confirmation
6 — Transit Trigger when Sun/Moon cross Venus/Ketu/Saturn subs during the running Antara Picks the week inside the dated band
7 — Deliver Saturn-Venus Bhukti (Oct 2018 → Dec 2021), opening at the Saturn-Venus-Venus Antara High confidence

FAQ

Q: What if the client is already in a relationship — does that change the analysis? A: The house combination remains the same (2, 7, 11 supportive). The question shifts from "will marriage happen?" to "when will this relationship formalize?" The CSL still governs the promise. If the CSL is positive and the relationship already exists, the Dasha-RP-transit analysis targets the wedding/commitment event specifically.

Q: How do you differentiate between first marriage and second marriage in KP? A: The 7th house governs the first marriage. For second marriage, some KP practitioners analyze the 9th house (2nd from the 8th — the "next" marriage after the "end" of the first), while others continue with the 7th cusp. This is a school-dependent topic — AstroCentral teaches the 7th cusp as primary for all marriages, with the 9th cusp as a supplementary reference.

Q: The native's birth time is rounded to the nearest 5 minutes (06:58 or 07:02). How much does this affect the analysis? A: In KP, a 5-minute difference can shift cusps by roughly 1-1.25 degrees, which could change a cuspal sub-lord. For this analysis, the 7th cusp sub-lord (Venus) is the value to re-confirm. If you suspect the birth time is rounded, run the analysis for both possibilities and see if the CSL verdict changes. If it does, recommend birth-time rectification or a horary chart.

Q: Can the marriage happen outside the strongest sub-period — say, in a later Antara of the same Bhukti? A: Yes. The Saturn-Venus-Venus Antara (≈Oct 2018 → Apr 2019) is the sharpest opening, but the whole Saturn-Venus Bhukti (11 Oct 2018 → 10 Dec 2021, Venus being the 7th CSL) is the high-confidence window, and the later Antaras that bring the 7th directly — Saturn-Venus-Saturn (≈late 2020) and Saturn-Venus-Ketu (≈second half of 2021) — can also carry the event. The Antara-level call is a refined estimate within the Bhukti, not a guarantee of one specific sub-period. Treat the dated Bhukti as the reliable band and the Antara as the best guess inside it; the exact dates assume the stated birth and come from a Vimshottari calculation.

Q: What if Ruling Planets show zero overlap with significators? A: For marriage analysis specifically, zero RP overlap is a serious red flag. Recheck: (1) birth time accuracy, (2) whether the client's stated question matches their real concern, (3) completeness of significator tables. If everything checks out and RPs still don't match, consider a horary chart for independent verification before delivering the prediction.
